Update: 2018-01-25 07:07 IST

Ramanthapur: ‘Chinna Cheruvu’ of Ramanthapur has been in a state of complete mess for more than a decade now. The accumulated dirt in the lake has not only gave polluted ambience to the residents in the adjoining areas but has also destroyed the scenic beauty of the place.

The residents claimed that they have approached the officials of different departments, but all the officials have just been passing the buck to other departments. With no response even after repeated complaints, the residents have been trying to adjust with the filth around them.

Brahmaiah, a resident of Ramanthapur and an auto driver told The Hans India, “People come and dump their household dirt into the river. There is nobody in the area who can keep a check on these activities of the people.”

S Rama Reddy, a retired government employee says, “It is horrible during rainy season, the stink and the mosquitoes create menace. We cannot keep the doors of our house open for a long time throughout the day.”

Another local of the area told The Hans India, “When the State was not divided a proposal was submitted to the State government for the beautification of the lake and convert it into a tourist spot. However, after submitting of the proposal, there has been no subsequent efforts taken to look into the matter seriously.”

“Senior citizens and children are left with no space in the area to go for a walk or for playing”, added the local. Sometimes, some cattle rearers bring their cattle to make it bathe in the lake. The condition of the lake has becoming worse with the passage of time.”

Meantime, we got in touch with the lake maintenance department, a senior officer from the department told The Hans India, “Money has been released for the restoration works, however, the higher officials have not taken any move in this direction. Until and unless they tell us anything, we are helpless in this regard.”
