Repair works on NTR Marg blamed for sewage entering the lake 

Hyderabad: Summer is yet to arrive but the stinking smell at Hussain Sagar lake has left the pedestrians and motorist in difficulty as more than 100 Million Litres per Day (MLD) sewage enters the lake, while the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials have been turning a blind eye towards the problem.

Hussain Sagar which is one of the tourist spots in the city is turning bad to worse and the water has turned green in colour with water hyacinth at the shore.

A pedestrian at Tank Bund Srinivas said that Hussain Sagar is one of the tourist attractions, but the condition of the lake is very bad and because of the sewage water there is a lot of stink during the peak hours.

Another pedestrian Laxman said that ahead of summer the stinking smell in Hussain Sagar has increased and people are unable the stand or move around the lake. He added that the department has to soon take some necessary measures to avoid the bad smell.

When asked about the subject, an HMDA official said that the department is trying its best to keep the lake clean as much as possible. She said that due to the construction work at NTR Marg, Secretariat and NTR stadium sewage is entering directly into Hussain Sagar but HMDA would soon come up with proposal to clean the lake.
