Parsees’ day sports event conducted by the Zoroastrian Club
Secunderabad: The Parsees of the twin-cities usually meet up for Navroz- the Parsi New Year but the community members got together for a one-day sports event conducted by the Zoroastrian Club at the RRC Grounds on Sunday.
About 200 members from different age groups participated in track and field events. The above 55 years category was the most awaited event and as many as eight men took part in them. Percy Daver came first follwed by Zakir D Vasaigara and the third spot was garnered by Kersi Patel.
In the 6-8 years age group, many children took part in marble and spoon race and frog race. The highlight of the event was rendering of commentary by Nazir Vakil who regaled the gathering with anecdotes and on the spot jokes.
In the shot put over 55 years age group, Gulcher Wadia came first, Korshed Vasaigara bagged the second place and Alice D Hansotia came third.
Minoo Siganporia, president, Zoroastrian Club said, “The event proved that Parsees just need a chance and they are ready for fun and frolic. We are a small community and such events help in bonding.” Echoing a similar sentiment, Zakir Vasaigara, chairman of the sports committee said, “The event was a success and what was heartening was the participation in above 55 age group.”
