Joint meet held on water conservation

HMWSSB requests Army authorities to join hands with the local body to create awareness among youth and students on rain water harvesting

Secunderabad: A joint conference on water conservation and rain water harvesting was held at Headquarters, Telangana and Andhra Sub Area (TASA) with Shri Dana Kishore, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and Major General N Srinivas Rao, GOC TASA on Friday.

Brigadier MD Upadhyay, Deputy GOC and Chairman, Secunderabad Cantonment Board, Shri SVR Chandra Sekhar, CEO, SCB, Dr PS Suryanarayana, Director (Technical), HMWSSB and other senior officers of HMWSSB, TASA, Cantonment Board and Military Engineering Service were present. 

The GOC presented the vision for sustainable and environment friendly development of cantonment and future plans to conserve water resources through rain water harvesting and other green house norms. He felt that cantonment and HMWS&SB officials need to chalk out a plan to recharge abandoned bore wells, ponds, and open wells in the cantonment area. Shri Dana Kishore and his team presented various rain water harvesting techniques being implemented in twin cities. 

They requested army authorities to join hands with the local body to create awareness among youth and students on rain water harvesting. The GOC and MD HMWS&SB agreed to launch awareness activities for water conservation through organizing half marathons and awareness programmes in schools. The Chief Works Engineer of Military Engineering Services briefed the present and future water requirements in the cantonment.
