Heritage site turns a dumping ground
Golkonda: Wrongly placed GHMC dust bins in the Golkonda area is resulting in defacing the heritage structure Moti Darwaza as tonnes of construction waste and domestic waste can be seen piled up at the entrance of Moti Darwaza in Golkonda and efforts by the municipal officials are turning futile.
This has been happening since the garbage bin was replaced from its original destination near the door corner, which is now sealed by the Golf Course wall and the bins are placed inside the heritage structure which is encouraging citizens to litter around, not only litter but also dump tonnes of construction waste resulting in defacing of the heritage structure.
Construction waste is usually dumped at nights causing traffic problems during the peak hours of the day and when we try objecting them they say this is not your property says a Tiffin center owner and resident of Moti Darwaza Mohd Altaf, he also added that this is a planned strategy to build real estate grounds on the cornering ditch of fort walls.
Shafiq Ahmed a shop vendor says we don’t have any garbage bins nearby, It’s the only place where nearby locals could dump he also added there is no initiative GHMC to improve this situation.
It is to be noted that the municipal body has recently inaugurated the Construction Waste Recycling units on the outskirts of city. However, there has been no proper way to deal with the construction waste in the city.
AIMIM local leader Masood Bhai says we are handling such complaints and working on them, the construction waste is been cleaned at times, but citizens are still dumping in he also added that the problem is that the people don’t want any garbage bins near their areas, and it gets tough for us to tackle, locate and handle the waste citizens must cooperate with us for us to function properly.
