Hyderabad:  However, the present condition in the city theatres is far from satisfactory. Last weekend, at Chandrakala theatre in Moosapet after watching the movie the viewers came out. At the parking lot, without any further query there were people who were seen paying the amount of Rs 30 demanded when the receipt says only Rs 20.

According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act 1955, Section 115(40), movie theatres and multiplexes should not collect a parking fee from customers as they are doing at present

When one of the group members asked the attendant to show the official rate card on which they have to pay the increased parking amount, they were informed said there is no such thing. Despite such a discussion between them, the public later paid the parking money asked for.

A local of the area Praveen said: ‘The question is why nobody takes any action. And when there are no such rules then people should stop encouraging them by paying them and start questioning them instead’

A student, Ramya said ‘The theatre is decent, but parking charge sucks.  The theatre management should check why extra amount is being charged when the receipt shows a lesser amount’.

Pranav, who went to watch a film at Tivoli recently said the theatre management demanded that he pay Rs 30 for parking his bike.  The theatre staff told them it is not clear whether the rates are for the duration of a movie or on an hourly basis.
