Farmers manipulate vegetable prices at will
Mehdipatnam: Thousands of people visit Rythu Bazaar on daily basis as the Rythu Bazaars are specially known for its fresh and healthy vegetables. However, the Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazar market customers are being fooled by the vendors as they charge more as the prices on the notice board goes unnoticed and the vendors charge higher.
While, customers who visit the market interact with vendors directly by asking for the price and they are informed a different price and neglect the price being quoted by the Rythu Bazar officer.
For capsicum, a vendor quoted the price of Rs 40 per kg whereas it was only Rs 25 per kg on the notice board likewise Cabbage was sold for Rs 20 Per kg by the vendors and the original price was Rs 8 per kg, Ivy gourd (Donda) was sold at the price of Rs 20 per kg but its official cost was mentioned as only Rs 13 per kg.
When enquired a vendor at Rythu Bazaar from Mamidipally village said “the products we sell are different than the product you see on the price board, we charge you for the quality, which is the best in this market. He said that we are running in loss because the prices have gone down now”.
Rajeev, a customer said “we have to bargain to drop down to the original price, the vendors who sell good quality vegetables are more demanding about the price and say it is the best in market”.
When enquired at the complaints department Supervisor Nadeem quickly made an announcement in the market regarding the prices, thereafter he said it is only for because of festival season, they do not usually charge more as we keep constant eye on the vendors by inspecting them every day.
‘Although some vendors charge more as they have to pay the rent, yet if there is any complaint we take quick action and also make sure that it never happens again’ he affirmed.
