Awareness Walkathon flagged off
As part of ‘World Kidney Day’ and ‘International Women’s Day’ commemorating on the same day Gleneagles Global Hospitals conducted a 5 km walkathon at Peoples Plaza, Necklace Road. The walk was graced with the participation of more than 300 members, representing different age groups from all walks of life from hospital staff, nurses, docotors, students, executives, celebrities, bureaucrats and diplomats.
While Chronic Kidney disease (CKD) is a worldwide public health problem with adverse outcomes of kidney failure and premature death. CKD affects approximately 195 million women worldwide and it is currently the 8th leading cause of death in women, with close to 600,000 deaths each year.
The risk of developing CKD is at least as high in women as in men, and may even be higher with an average 14% prevalence in women and 12% in men.The event was flagged off by Dr G.Sridhar, Senior Consultant and Transplant Nephrologist.
Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all personnel and lauded their efforts in reaching out to the local populace for generating awareness on Kidney diseases and Women’s health.
Dr Ayub, GM, Gleneagles Global Hospitals said, “We need to keep ourself fit with regular exercise to avoid high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity which are the leading issues for kidney ailments. This campaign was a Gleneagles Global Hospitals initiative and the Walkathon was conducted with an aim to explain and increase the awareness on Kidney diseases and women’s health problems.
