2nd phase of pulse polio covers 98.7% on first day

Hyderabad: The second phase of the pulse polio immunisation drive covered 98.7 % of the targeted children in Telangana. Out of a total of 36,55,206 targeted children, a total of 36,08,585children were immunised.

The Minister for Health, C Laxma Reddy on Sunday started the drive in Hyderabad at UPHC in Afzal Sagar. Speaking on the occasion he called upon everyone to strive to ensure that polio remains at bay.

He hoped that for making this drive a successful everyone including HoDs of the departments, employees, NGOs would be contributing their part in ensuring that all the children below 5 year are covered. He said that despite achieving good results on the first day, the medical and allied staff will reach out to neighbourhoods to ensure everyone is covered. 

In this drive, the government has set up 22,768 polio centres where about 95,500 staff ensured that everyone is covered. Besides these 737 transit centres were also set up at bus stands, railway stations and major junctions.  A total of 787 mobile teams, 2,280 route supervisors, 8711 ANMs, 27,045 Asha workers, 32,082 Anganwadi workers were engaged in the exercise.
