Plea for 2 more POPSKs
Zaheerabad: Zaheerabad MP BB Patil met Minister of State for External Affairs (MEA) GE VK Singh on Friday in New Delhi to submit a representation for setting up of two more Post-Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSK) at Jaheerabad and Kamareddy towns for hassle free and easy applications to get passports for citizens at local post offices.
The MEA assured that the new POPSKs would be taken up in the next list of second phase as the President had already given his consent for the existing list.
Telangana has already been sanctioned five new POPSKs at Adilabad, Medak, Khammam, Siddipet and Nalgonda districts among 149 POPSKs across the country. The POPSKs are a joint initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Department of Posts (DoP) to use the head post-offices (HPO) or post-offices in the country as POPSK for delivery of hassle-free passport related services to the citizens.
In the first phase, 86 POPSKs were sanctioned in the country, of which 52 POPSKs have become functional. MEA and DOP are working closely for the operationalisation of passport related services at the remaining 34 POPSK in the first phase. These 149 are in addition to the 86 POPSKs sanctioned in the first phase.
