The single screen charm endures

Langer Houz: Pratap Theatre which is one of the oldest cinema theatres in Hyderabad has been a popular spot for filmi entertainment for decades now.  Recently, to withstand the growing competition among the multiplex screens Pratap theatre evolved as Alankar cinema recently, with a simultaneous change in management.

This cinema hall is situated at the gateway of about twenty engineering and medical colleges at Langer Houz because of which it is a perfect destination for student entertainment. It also attracts large number of visitors every day. People come here from the villages of Moinabad, Kalimandir, Aziznagar and Chilkoor as it is the closest and sole source of entertainment for these nearby villages.

Theatre manager Ravichander said “Alankar Cinema comes with a new 70mm screen with better picture quality and dynamic sound and canteen facility is also improved. The entire building is renovated and theater now inhabits 722 seats from bottom to balcony”.    

Supervisor Venkatesh said “Many people come here from distant places as there are no theatres nearby; In fact it is the first theatre on the old highway when driving towards Hyderabad. It is about 35-40 years old and I am working here since the first films reels were projected”.

Ashok Kumar who came to watch a movie said ‘I visit this theater since past five years. The new Alankar theatre is much better than the earlier one. That was also good but it was getting too old on technology so they have renovated it given a new with completely new movie experience. A student Sudheer who had come to watch a movie said “Sound and picture quality is delightful and watching a movie in 70mm screen is always a charm”.
