WoW Hyderabad making difference
Begumpet: A joint initiative of the city-based Indian conglomerate ITC Limited and GHMC under, "Wellbeing Out of Waste" (WoW) Hyderabad , has set its eyes on revolutionising work atmosphere into an eco-friendly one through its recent campaign titled "Swachh Karyalay".
As part of the campaign, WoW Hyderabad is currently running a pilot project in government units such as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) office in Secunderabad to measure the parameters like employee involvement in the movement, how much waste has been brought down or recycled, the amount of energy saved
Launched in January 2018, the campaign aims to bring out efficient solutions to reduce, reuse and recycle waste generated in offices along with saving important resources like electricity, water etc which could be passed on to the future generations if used judiciously.
Although the non-governmental organisation has already been actively involved in promoting waste segregation at many multi-national companies along with the small and medium-sized enterprises of the State, the organisation is now readying its ground to spread awareness on how offices can inculcate eco-friendly working patterns in their day-to-day life, making a huge difference for the conservation and preservation of nature around them.
As part of the campaign, WoW Hyderabad is currently running a pilot project in government units such as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) office in Secunderabad to measure the parameters like employee involvement in the movement, how much waste has been brought down or recycled, the amount of energy saved etc.
From running awareness drives on how old files and papers that are exposed to dust, rain, and scorching heat could be recycled to produce stationery for the poor and needy at subsidised rates to saving energy in the office by replacing traditional tube lights with LEDs and from conserving water through simple solutions like harvesting pits or repairing leaky restrooms to holding sessions on waste management with the employees, WoW Hyderabad has managed to motivate the officials and the employees alike in acting towards a sustainable work environment.
Not just with the GHMC, the CSR wing of ITC is also pitching in for such activities in the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited office in Hyderabad. If everything goes well, this brainchild of WoW Hyderabad might soon spread its wings to corporate giants in the city which are ready to welcome an eco-friendly makeover to their working patterns. Speaking about the initiative taken up by the firm and its social responsibility section, GHMC Deputy Commissioner of Begumpet, A Shailaja said, " We have had a pleasure working with officials and volunteers of WoW Hyderabad.
They are committed to their cause and have walked hand-in-hand with us to derive solutions for a clean Hyderabad since 2016. During the Swachh Survekshan rankings, the firm has helped us train our workers to spread the message of waste segregation from door-to-door. But Swachh Karyalay is definitely a unique attempt by WoW Hyderabad to inculcate simple ways of sustainability even at office place because it is often the most ignored centres of waste accumulation. We are glad to be the first office to experience the change through their eco-friendly solutions.
As part of our involvement in the campaign, we are already in a process to become an LED driven workplace and are also piling up our folders or papers to give it for recycling. Though we know these are small steps for a better future and expect that very soon even other organisations too will follow the suite to ensure that we give our generations a healthy and hygienic environment."
