Persistent sewage flow in Chintal Basti
Khairatabad: For the past six months sewage water has been overflowing in Chintal Basti market road which is torturing the local residents and commuters. Even after several cleaning initiatives by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) problem remains the same.
Overflowing drainage and broken manhole is leading to traffic issues in area and the narrow road in the market lane of Chintal Basti has turned the situation from bad to worse. A shopkeeper in the area Mohd Abdul Kareem said “sewage is flowing for months. Whenever we make complain to HMWS&SB officials they come and clean the place, which is of no use because next day drainage starts flowing again”.
A resident near the locality Anjamma said “there are schools and colleges in nearby area and students are facing problems because during mornings water flow is very high and the road is busy so it is causing traffic problems as well, apart from this there are many potholes on the road which are dangerous, as it is causing many accidents’.
A sweet shop owner D Srinivas form the area said ‘Customers are reducing because of sewage flowing in front of store. I have filed a complaint, even after cleaning flow did not stop. HMWS&SB has to change the pipeline because the pipes here are small and they cannot bear the flow because of this the overflowing drainage is causing a lot of affect on business in this line apart from business it is also causing sanitation and traffic issues because the manhole in on the middle of the road”. Several attempts to contact HMWS&SB went in vain and the officials refused to comment.
