Hyderabad: Unauthorised hoardings to be pulled down by month end
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation removed the illegal hoardings from the city which were in huge number. These hoardings were at west, central, north, east zones. According to sources the illegal hoardings will be completely removed by the end of this month. One engineer has been specially appointed in every zone to initiate action against the illegal hoardings.
Recently, the GHMC in its official release claimed that out of the 333 hoardings in the city 195 hoardings were identified as unauthorised across the city. Maximum of 69 hoardings were taken out in the east zone, followed by 39 in central zone, 37 in North Zone, 37 in west zone and 23 in south zone.GHMC launched a special drive to clear the 333 structures in January and aims to complete the drive by this month-end.
Sanjay Kumar, Executive Engineer of West Zone, speaking to The Hans India said, ‘Hoardings and advertisements are placed at traffic signals at the junction of the roads or road sides. The ministry has formed a special team that would work on the removal of hoardings by prioritising the highways that have maximum congestion.
Despite the government policy of not allowing roadside advertisement hoardings on Highways, which cause distraction and is among the causes of accidents, advertisements hoardings are generally seen along the highway roads’, he adds. A B.tech student, Balaji said ‘This creates disturbance in our work at times, though they seem to be attractive but not all the time. Especially the birthday hoardings make a person feel irritated. Some hoardings which make people get some information of what is going in the city is acceptable’.
