New ration cards to be issued soon

Vikarabad:  The civil supplies department will soon commence issue of new ration cards to the applicants as equipping the FP shops with the PoS machines is through. It sought information mandal wise from tahsildars on the total number of applicants seeking new cards.  Higher officials have ordered tahsildars to furnish details within a week.

The online website to enroll new beneficiaries of ration cards will resume functioning from April. The website updating has been suspending because of the PoS machines supply to FP dealers. As inclusion of names in the ration card has been suspended, eligible poor have to forego just rations. Moreover, they have to buy rice in the open market shelling down more money. 

Within a month of updating the ration card, six kg of rice would be given per head. In fact, 2.61 lakh populations out of the 9.4 lakh population of 18 mandals of the district get rice from the FP shop at Re 1 a kg through 588 ration shops in 501 villages. 

An Antyodaya card-holder gets 35 kg of rice and a kg of sugar irrespective of the number of family members. According to a conservative estimate, over 10,000 applied for ration card. The number is likely to increase by 15,000 once fresh representations seeking ration cards are invited and new names are included in the existing cards.
