Encourage farmers to adopt modern methods: Collector
Vikarabad: District Collector Sayyad Omar Jaleel has called upon the members of farmers’ coordination committee to encourage farmers to adopt modern methods of cultivation in tune with the changing times. He was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of training programme for the Vikarabad Assembly constituency farmers’ coordination committees at the Vikarabad club premises here on Wednesday.
Adopting modern farming practices would result in more yield, he said. For the good of the farmers, the state government constituted the committees from the grassroots level and taking steps to sensitise farmers on various issues pertaining to agriculture, he said.
The committee members undergoing training should take steps to conduct awareness programmes for farmers at the grassroots level, he said. Proposals are being readied to construct farmers coordination committee buildings on an acre of land, he said.
Quoting the example of how a small country like Japan is achieving higher farm yields using the latest technology, the district collector asked the farmers to adopt advice of scientists and implement the latest farming practices to reap bumper harvests. Farmers’ coordination committee president P Maheshwar Reddy, agriculture officer Gopal and members of various farmers’ coordination committees in Vikarabad and Tandur Assembly constituencies and agriculture officers took part in the programme.
