Yakutpura: While the water board officials are boasting themselves of providing uninterrupted drinking water to the citizens, many areas in old city lack proper water for their daily use.

Many hand pumps and drinking water tanks installed by water board and GHMC are going dry or dysfunctional. Summer doubles up the miseries of people in many localities. Yakutpuar, Rein Bazar, Murtuzanagar, East Chandranagar, Brahmanwadi, Maula Ka Chilla, Talabkatta, Amaan Nagar A and many other colonies are reeling under water scarcity these days.

Similarly, hand pumps and installed water tanks along with borewells have also gone dry and officials are not taking cognizance of these pumps. These pumps and tanks were established under various schemes intended to provide water to the residents besides drinking water.

These tanks and hand pumps were mostly for the slum dwellers and for those who cannot afford to have water at home for their daily needs. This water was for the colonies where drinking water could not reach following low pressure and uneven geography.

Several such pumps in the mentioned areas of old city are not functional for a long time and these were not repaired in time. These areas are more likely to experience horrible days ahead since summer season has already started. Civic bodies are responsible for the maintenance and repair of these pumps and tanks in the Bastis.

People in these localities have complained that water board officials were plainly denying to send any free tanker for filling these tanks during the summer and tankers will be sent only for those who pay the water charges.
