Jeedimetla: Incomplete drainage renovation activities have become a major cause of concern for people living in and around Jeedimetla. Mocking the several promises were made by corporators and local leaders during the GHMC elections on improving basic infrastructure, residents said that none of them are bothered with their suffering.

In a recent incident, a renovation work of an open Nala beside Shapur Nagar main road worth 66 Lakh Rupees taken up by GHMC authorities have been left midway allegedly due to pressure from Hyderabad Road Development Corporation (HRDC) who are laying roads in the same area.

A source close to the GHMC said that the HRDC officials have asked the municipality to steer way of the road construction activities since the drainage renovation project was causing hindrances for the movement of vehicles and manpower at Shapur Nagar without even letting them cover the open drains with concrete lids. Thus, Gajularamaram GHMC Deputy Executive Shirish shared that the municipality would be submitted the bills of only the works that have been completed with regard to the project.

In the meanwhile, with the open drains being in constant use, the area has turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes and is emanating a bad stench causing inconvenience to the public residing or practicing trade in the area. " It is a problem between the GHMC and the HRDC, then why should we suffer. At the end of the day, it is we who face trouble walking near it. Our children's lives are put at risk while the government authorities play the blame game on one other.

Let me tell you that every evening we feel the suffocation. What about the public money involved in such activities? Despite paying so much of taxes to the state and central why aren't we entitled to lead a comfortable life? And where are those who spoke of representing our problems?" questions Suresh, an IT Employee.
