BJP asks govt to support Geetanjali Gems employees

Pahadisharif: City BJP leaders demanded the government to provide employment to the employees of Geetanjali Gems company, who lost their jobs after the Punjab National Bank scam surfaced.

The city BJP leader Kolan Shankar Reddy said that the Geetanjali Gems employees had come on to the road with sudden closure of the company. The employees did not get salaries for the months of February and March because of the closure, he said.

The employees staged dharna in front of the Pahadisharif police station demanding the government to provide alternative employment to them. Shankar Reddy said that about 600 employees were working in Geetanjali Gems for the last 12 years. Of the 600 employees, 300 were appointed by DRDA. 

With the company involved in bank fraud, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and IT department seized the company resulting in unemployment of the employees. Three contractors used to provide salaries to these employees and they are facing problems because there is no salary for the last two months, said Shankar Reddy. 

The BJP leader wanted the government to provide employment to these employees in other companies. The BJP leaders Khaja Khan, Md Aziz, Ranganath, Prabhakar, Sanjeev, Parveen Begum, Khatija Begum and others were present.
