KGBVs-a boon to school drop-out girls

Tandur:  The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) have become a boon for school dropout girls. Apart from providing education to them, the schools play a crucial role in weaning away the girls from child marriages. The KGBV staff members have been motivating the parents of the school drop-out girls to enroll their wards in the school.

The KGBV at Marepally in Peddemul mandal has over 196 students. The students are served breakfast along with tea or milk. Theluch consists of dal and vegetables, while eggs and fruits are being served to them in the dinner.  To make the students free from home sickness, they are being served meat along with lunch on Sundays. Sweets are being specially prepared and served to the students.

Government pays the SSC exam fees for the students. Subject teachers take extra care in teaching especially those who are lagging behind. Special attention is being paid whether students are getting good food by appointing them as store-incharges and also as food in-charges.

An ANM has been appointed to address the minor health care issues. In case of serious ailments, the students are being referred to their parents.  According to the KGBV SO Rajeshwari said that the annual exams for students of classes sixth to ninth will commence from Monday. 

After the exams, a summer camp will be conducted for the students till the month end. Besides academics, skill training in stitching, weaving and drawing will be provided.  Moreover, hygienic kits comprising 15 articles were given to the students once in three months.
