Overflowing sewerage bothers residents at Shanthi Nagar

Ziaguda: Overflowing sewerage is bothering the residents of Shanti Nagar at Ziaguda for over two months now. Cleaning efforts made by the manhole scavengers of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) are running futile.

Hundreds of litres of sewerage flowing through main holes is also bothering neighbouring colonies in the area because the sewerage flows from in front of their doors. Water is also flowing between Ziaguda to Karwan main road leading to potholes on an already bad road.

Residents say that the choking of drainage is because of the damaged pipeline. The cleaning efforts by the water board is not showing progress because the water starts flowing again.

Venkatesh, a resident of Shanti Nagar said, “The sewerage water is torturing us with unbearable stench for months now. It is hard to get out of home and walk on the road because of heavy sewerage flow during morning time. It has become breeding ground for mosquitoes and it is hazardous to our health”.

Another resident said, “Manhole scavengers have cleaned it earlier, but all their efforts are pointless because the whole drainage system in Shanti Nagar is blocked now, water board officials must use a pump to clear the line and repair broken manholes. Road outside the lane is also severely damaged because of persistent sewerage flow”. Several attempts were made to contact the water board office, but all the efforts went in vain.
