Dalit & social organisations take out protest rally in L B Nagar
L B Nagar: Members of the Hayatnagar Dalit and Social Organisations on Tuesday took out a rally on the Vijayawada National Highway to protest the killing of 11 persons in violence/police firing during the Bharat Bandh called to oppose the Supreme Court ruling on the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. They burnt an effigy of the Union government blaming it for the deaths.
Addressing the participants, Ambedkar Sangham leader Parandswamy and CPI(M) Abdullapur mandal secretary E Narsimha alleged that attacks on Dalits, minorities, Christians and Girijans have been increasing since the BJP came to power. They accused the ‘BJP and the RSS of making efforts to change the Constitution to suit the Hindu agenda and that the attacks on Dalits were part of the efforts’.
The two leaders pointed out that efforts were on to change the SC, ST Act to suit the interests of the high castes. Referring to the killing of 11 persons in three northern States, they described them as ‘government murders’ and threatened to launch a massive agitation against the NDA regime.
Among the participants in the rally were Congress leaders T Dhanraj, Shravan, Dalit Sangham activists Erra Ravinder, Chukka Venkatesh, CITU’s Mahesh, SFI’s Nagendra, Shakti Kumar, Bhavani Shankar, Boda Narsimha, Adam, Daniel.
