Crop colonies introduced in Telangana
Jeedimetla: The Department of Horticulture Department announced the introduction of crop colonies in Telangana where farmers would be encouraged to grow healthy food crops and would be given a good monetary support from the government as a reward for their efforts.
Worth 10.6 crores, the project is said to focus on 8 plantations comprising that of tamarind, turmeric to name a few from which powder would be processed for the further development of the farm and associated industries. As a part of the pilot project, 3 metric tonnes have been set as a target under the Horticulture Development Corporation and processing units would be established in a 5 to 6 months.
Horticulture Commissioner Venkata Rami Reddy said that Telangana was the only state to be allocating nearly 12000 crore rupees for the research and development in the primary sector.
