Legal literacy clubs to be promoted in government educational institutions
Medak: Nyaya Seva Sadan, an organisation promoting legal literacy, is going to promote legal literacy clubs in more colleges and schools soon in the undivided Medak district to groom the students as better citizens.
So far such clubs have been formed at girls’ high schools at Sangareddy, Jogipeta, IDA Bollarum, Narayanakhed and Siddipeta and students of ninth and 10th classes have been enrolled as members of such clubs. One teacher is put in-charge of one class and will encourage the students to develop an interest in the activities of the clubs. The District Naya Seva Sadan has embarked on an exercise to enroll first year Intermediate students in the club.
Committees have been constituted to sensitise students of government educational institutions on socially relevant issues, including legal issues, apart from imparting them education. Awareness of the laws of the l and at student stage would help him grow further. To promote interest among students, elocution competitions, essay-writing competitions and painting competitions will be conducted for the club members. Further, they will be sensitised on the constitutional values and ill-effects of child marriages.
Also, they will be sensitised on the rights of the aged. Other issues to be dealt are: adverse impact of eve-teasing, ragging, abortion, measures to contain road accidents, dowry prohibition act, human rights and fundamental duties of a citizen and so on.
