Hajj volunteers told to follow rules duly

Hyderabad: Waqf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem vowed that strict action would be taken against Khadimul Hujjaj (Pilgrim Guides) if any complaints surface against them during the performance of Haj this year.

Speaking after taking out the draw for Khadims at Haj House on Friday, the Waqf Board chairman said that selected persons must serve the pilgrims as per the stipulated rules. He said that they need to facilitate the Haj pilgrims from the time of departure to completion of all the rituals of Haj there.

 There were several complaints in the past that Khadimul Hujjaj (guides) were abandoning the pilgrims there and were not guiding the pilgrims during performance of Haj, he stated and said that this time it won’t be tolerated.

CEO Haj Committee Mohammed Masiullah on this occasion said that out of 232 applications, about 17 names were selected in an open draw. Four other Khadims were in waiting list. He said that expenditure on each guide would be about Rs 2.5 lakh. He informed that expenditure for half of the selected Khadims would be borne by Central Haj Committee and remaining would be taken care by State Haj Committee.He appealed the selected Khadims to perform their duty responsibly and avoid any action by the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Officer S A Shukoor said that action was taken against the Khadimul Hujjaj (Guides) in the past for misconduct and dereliction of duties. It is to be recalled that only government employees from various departments are eligible to become a Khadimul Hujjaj.
