Phule couple’s idols unveiled, tributes paid

Parigi:  Transport Minister Mahender Reddy on Wednesday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Jyotiba Phule after unveiling the statues here in connection with the 192nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Phule. 

As a social reformer, Mahatma Phule fought against caste discrimination. He encouraged removal of untouchability and women’s education. Through his Satya Sodhana Samajam he strove for achieving social equality.  He authored the work Ghulamgiri. He fought for rights of the down-trodden sections of the society through Deenabandhu paper.  

Let us follow the footsteps of Phule, whom he described as forerunner to Dr BR Ambedkar.  District Rytu Samanya Samiti convener Mahesh Reddy and leaders of several other organisations took part in the celebrations.
