HMWS&SB initiates new plan to tackle drinking water woes

Old City: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is preparing a new drinking water plan for Old City and works had started in this direction. Water board officials vowed that there will be efforts to make drinking water available in every remote area of the Old City this summer.

Water board Managing Director M Dana Kishore conducted a review meeting in this regard and asked the officials to start working on the new project. He said that new water reservoir, pipeline will be established wherever the requirement is more. Similarly, bringing down the leakages and taking up repair would be the priority in different parts of old city.

As per the new plan of action for old city drinking water supply, the old pipelines would be repaired and streamline the distribution across various localities in old city. Tenders have been called for taking up the works in old city from interested and prospective consultancies. Water board claims that it is supplying drinking water to about 2.6 lakh consumers through connections and this capacity would be enhanced in the coming days. It is to be noted that several slum and remote areas in old city do not get proper drinking water supply even during rainy season and summer comes as a nightmare for these colonies.

Many areas depend upon water tankers for their drinking water needs. Reacting to the number of complaints from old city for water supply, water board is now working on new project.
