Mosquito menace serious in several colonies of Malkajgiri
Malkajgiri: Mosquito menace has assumed serious proportions in several colonies of this circle, that too during the evening hours, giving sleepless nights to the residents and resulting in many falling sick . They told The Hans India that the municipal officials have failed to take steps to check the menace.
The Safilguda and Bandacheruvu tanks have become sources of sewage and breeding centres of mosquitoes. Ramakrishnapuram, Safilguda, Bandcheruvu areas are stinking with foul smell, as the civic staff seem to have given a go-bye to their tasks, causing severe hardships to the residents of these colonies.
The residents said no steps to protect the tanks were being implemented, although tall claims to this effect are being made. They wanted officials to at least now wake up and initiate action to expedite the tank beautification work and to find a permanent solution to the problems posed by mosquitoes, by improving sanitation. The residents alleged that local corporator Sridevi Hanmantha Rao and Malkajgiri MLA Chintala Kanaka Reddy, along with politicians, have ‘miserably’ failed in ensuring improvement of the Ramakrishnapuram tank which was full of foam during the last six months, giving rise to foul smell, despite the change of the government.
Local people complained that they were also facing severe inconvenience from drunkards on the Devinagar Tank, because of the nuisance they create there. They want the people’s representatives and officials to ensure that hyacinth spread out in the tanks is removed and to check flow of sewage into it. ‘If these steps are taken people falling sick can be prevented’, they informed THI.
