Fall in customer footfalls turns worrisome for Rythu Bazaar vendors

Ramakrishna Puram: Having no proper sale, the vegetable vendors are at major risk. The latest trend of weekly markets within colonies is causing a decline in customer footfall at the rythu Bazaar in Ramakrishna Puram. The vegetable vendors are worried and becoming panicked day by day on how to survive as they have no other source of income. 

The present rythu bazaar which saw good sales in the initial days of its existence is now seen with almost 85 per cent empty sheds. The sheds have become of no use as there is no vegetable vendor to use it to set up their vegetable stall. 

Witnessing less business, the vegetable vendors urged the government officials to relocate them to the open ground at Defence Colony in Neredmet. “The open ground which is now being used as a dump yard is causing inconvenience to the residents with emanating foul smell. We urge the local Corporator and the MLA to favour us with shifting the rythu bazaar to Defence Colony open grounds which would be easy access to customers to avail vegetables thereby increasing the sales,” said Lakshmi, farmer and vegetable vendor. 

On the other hand, as the rythu bazar is next to the lake, the vegetable vendors are suffering with mosquito bites and at the same time lack of transport facility to reach the market is forcing the customers to get vegetables from the nearby weekly markets. "We at least want the concerned government officials to look into the issue and improve the conditions and renovate the present rythu bazaar at Ramakrishna Puram into a mega market that would suffice the requirements of the customers, said farmers and the customers.
