`13.15 lakh stolen at Toopran DE office
Toopran: Two days collection of Rs. 13.15 lakh of electricity bills at Divisional Engineer Office at Toopran mandal headquarters was stolen on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in Medak district. On being informed about the robbery on Sunday morning, police reached the spot with clues team and the investigation is underway. According to police, the collection of Friday and Saturday was stored in two bags in the locker in the ground floor of the two-storey office building by DE Subhash as Saturday was holiday for the banks.
The thieves broke open the channel gate and locker by using hacksaw blades, crow bar, shovel and sickle and left with the cash bag of Rs. 13.15 lakh in 2000 and 500 denominations leaving the other bag with small denominations amounting to Rs. 3.24 lakh.
In the morning, the watchman, who slept on the first floor where the DE office is located, noticed the gate and locker being broke open and informed the same to the DE Subhash and Toopran police station which is 2kn away from the electricity office. The DE Subhash said generally, they store the cash in the locker at the office during the bank holidays. The clues team collected the samples of evidences and fingerprints and the investigation is on in the presence of CI Lingeshwar Rao with SI Nagarjuna Goud, said the police who said that there was no facility of CCTV cameras at the spot.
