Chintal: Road-side traders near Sha Theatre and Sagar Hotel in the Shapurnagar area are being subjected to police harassment and ill-treatment during demolition of their shelters. Big shots managing restaurants and wine shops were being spared the treatment by officials and the police, who appear to be blind to their functioning.

Is local MLA Vivekananda not aware of such happenings?

At the same there is criticism (on May Day) that the illegal activities of petty traders were increasing by the day. Besides, the State government proudly announced on TV channels on May 1 that the ruling party was ahead of others in ensuring welfare of the unorganised sector.

Yet the traders told The Hans India that the officials were not concerned about their welfare They accused the Jeedimetla traffic police of high-handed behaviour, while expressing anguish referring to Wednesday’s demolition of their small shops, without any notice.

The traders point out that they have been running the shops worth lakhs for years paying rents with difficulty. ‘Our lives have been ruined because of the police action’, they said while condemning it.
