Women safety drive held at Begumpet

Begumpet: In order to ensure that women travel safe, the all Women Railway Protection Force at Begumpet railway station organised an awareness campaign with regards to the safety of women and children travelling in trains on Wednesday.

Declaring 2018 as year for women and children safety, it said “The RPF came up with a security help line number 182 that enables women to connect RPF when in trouble.” Apart from it, skits were also performed to inform women how well she can effectively use the helpline to call on the nearest RPF when being troubled, which was followed by a rally with holding placards that shows the helpline number 182 in the station premises.

The initiative filled in confidence in women as the railway security helpline 182 is manned by RPF 24x7 and has dedicated three hotlines exclusively. The grievances of passengers will be redressed within no time. On the other hand, RPF women staff is escorting Mathrubhoomi laides MMTS special and ensuring security of women. 

As of now, all women coaches of MMTS trains are manned by home guard/RPF personnel. It was told that RPF is not just to register women-based complaints that includes nuisance, encroachment of seats, trafficking and harassment but one can call for any kind of offence being faced that includes missing children and any kind of theft.

According to the sources,” To the count of 1366 passengers were arrested by RPF Secunderabad division and prosecuted under section 162 of Railways Act for travelling in ladies coaches in 2017 and 451 offenders in 2018. It even rescued 368 in 2017 and 155 in 2018(upto April) run away or missing children and handed over to parents of NGOs.”
