Dabeerpura: Muslim leaders representing different social groups were taken into custody, when they attempted to march towards U S Consulate General in Begumpet in a bid to 'submit a memorandum', as mark of protest, over American decision to shift its Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The police took into custody leaders representing Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (Telangana and Odisha), Tehreek-e-Muslim Shaban and Vahdat-e-Islami from different locations.

While some of them were able to reach close to the U S Consulate General in Begumpet, others were on their way to submit memorandum, marking the protest against the decision of U S Government to shift its Embassy from Tel Aviv (present Capital of Israel) to Jerusalem (contested with Palestinians and recognised by US as its future capital).

Speaking to media persons after being released from police station, Hamid Mohammed Khan, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind demanded US to rollback its decision over shifting of its Embassy, as it would be against the human rights of the Palestinians most of whom were rendered homeless and continue to struggle as refugees in their own motherland.

He condemned the decision of the U S President Donald Trump, who earlier endorsed Jerusalem as the future Capital of Israel. While welcoming the stand of Indian Government over the issue, he said that the State government should have allowed the leaders to submit their memorandum in a peaceful way. “It was gesture of protest in peaceful way, how could the State government stop this ?” he questioned.

Mushtaq Malik, president of Tehreek-e-Muslim Shaban said that about 70 lakh Palestinians were living as refugees in their own homeland. It was an unprovoked decision from the America to shift its Embassy from existing Capital to Jerusalem.

While alleging that Israel was pursuing the dangerous agenda, he held that this kind of American actions would only bolster its motives in the volatile region. “Even if we are stopped by the authorities we continue to protest against this decision,” he said.

Maulana Naseeruddin, president of Vahdat-e-Islami who was earlier taken into custody for similar protest against Iranian Consulate in Banjara Hills said that on this day, the Israel came into existence with only 13 % percent of the land and now occupies almost 90 % percent, forcing the entire Palestinian population to strive for the nation, once they enjoyed.
