Secunderabad:  It is more than four months now since the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) CEO and president promised that the Trimulgherry dump yard at Mahatma Gandhi community hall would be shifted, but there has been no significant development.

A team led by Brig. MD Upadhyay, president, SCB, visited several wards to scout for vacant land for the construction of a dump yard. Some of the areas that the team visited include Suchitra, Bolarum, Kowkoor and Jawahar Nagar. According to reliable sources, land near the Military Dairy farm was surveyed to shift the dump yard but the Local Military Authority (LMA) has to take a decision.

There have been several protests including a walkout by P Bhagyasree, board member ward No 7 in one of the board meetings when the issue was not included in the agenda. Speaking to The Hans India, she said, “I was informed by the CEO of SCB that it would be shifted in 25 days. We would be launching a massive protest as the SCB is fooling people.”

Officials at SCB say that the ball is in LMA’s court and once they get the green signal the process for shifting the dump yard could be taken up. It may be noted that a few years back, the Central  government had sanctioned Rs 50 crore for a solid waste management project, but local leaders sabotaged it said a member.
