Tension prevails in Kurma Nagar as officials pull down illegal structures

Uppal: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials on Monday pulled down some of the houses built without permission in Kurma Nagar in Uppal division of the civic body amidst police security.

The area has been declared as conservation zone since it is close to River Musi.  There are 900 houses divided among three residential colonies. The people are living in harmony in the locality. But, on account of differences between the local BJP MLA and TRS corporators, the people of the colony are feeling the political heat.

Tension prevailed in the area when the people of the locality resisted pulling down the structures. 
Some people of the locality are of the view that any structure can be raised provided they greaed palms of some officials and politicians, the locals said pointing out why local MLA Prabhakar, CM KCR and Municipal Administration Minister KTR failed to take action against the corrupt. 

They lamented that some of the officials are succumbing to political pressures, they said seeking permissions for house building. Later, Uppal Assembly constituency in-charge Lakshma Reddy visited the area and spoke to town planning officials. He lamented that the civic officials chose to take no action against those who build multi-storeyed structures in Uppal and Ramanthapur, but taking action against those who build houses in 50 to 60 square yards. 

He asked officials to not to pull down the structures, but they should stop construction of the houses after building them. Uppal corporator Anala Hanmanth Reddy described the pulling down of the poor people’s houses as a measure of victimization. 

Locals Mekala Hanmanth Reddy, Santosh Reddy, Mekala Vikram Reddy, Nomula Maisayya, Prasanna Kumar and others resisted the officials. Town planning ACP Mohra, TPS Rajalingam, TPBO Mounika, local SI P Venkateswarlu, SIs Krishna RAghuram and others participated.
