Power cuts posing problems to residents
Tandur: People of the town are facing difficulties as officials are not able to immediately restore power supply to villages when natural calamities occur. Power cuts running into several hours at a stretch are posing problems to people.
On one hand the rulers are promising round the clock power supply and on the other, not able to restore power when disruption occurs. In fact, there is no correlation between their sayings and the ground realities. Under the impact of gales accompanied by thunder showers that occurred in Peddemulmandal three days ago, power supply was affected to nearly 30 villages for over 10 hours.
Officials attribute the power supply disruption to overhead electric wires getting snapped up due to gales. As day temperatures are running up to 40 degrees Celsius, for want of air the people are sweating. Imposition of power cuts without prior information is posing problems to the people, it is alleged.
The people are confining themselves to their homes as Mercury starts rising from 10 am onwards. People are dreading to venture out of their homes. Under this scenario, if power supply disrupts they are at a loss of comprehension how to deal with the situation. Imposition of power cuts in urban and rural areas without any discrepancies the people are facing difficulties.
A resident of Tandur, Sagar, has said that power cut up to two hours can be tolerated but not beyond that. Attempts to contact officials are often proving futile as officials are not receiving the calls. A resident of Basheerabad Raju has lamented that God knowns when power comes and when it goes. He said people are not able to tolerate the power cuts. Both the young and old are dependent on fans to beat the heat.
Assistant director electrical Ram Das has said that electric wires and electric poles got damaged at several places on account of gales and rain. The electricity department workers are rectifying the technical defects to overcome the power cuts, he added.
