Sudden downpour brings Old City to standstill
Charminar: The sudden outburst of rain in the parts of Old City played havoc with trees falling on roads and rooftops coming out due to the accompanied turbulent winds, combined with showers. Water stagnation was seen in various parts of the area and in some cases water entered the houses.
Ramzan purchasing was also affected due to the sudden heavy rain. However, the rain gave a respite from scorching heat. After a big tree fell on Shama Cafe, near Volta hotel area in Moghalpura, it was completely damaged. Two persons were injured and four vehicles parked under it were also damaged. This tree which is considered to be more than 100-year-old affected the entire traffic on the stretch.
Abdul Mateen owner of Shama Cafe said that Cafe was running since 54 Years. The estimated loss was nearly 6 lakhs. GHMC officials and local leaders visited the spot. Two persons who were Injured were shifted to Asra Hospital. The officials said that efforts were being made to remove the huge tree with the help of a crane.
A heavy tree fell on the Mallepally - Masabtabk road which blocked the stretch for a long time. Traffic movement on this route came to a standstill even as the locals, along with traffic cops tried to cut the fallen tree and remove it from the road.
Large trees were also uprooted in some other localities including Gandhi Park in Saidabad colony, near Watertank of Santoshnagar, near Saidabad’s ACP office, Kaladera in Malakpet, in Akberbagh, in Farah Colony in Saidabad, at another location in Moghalpura, at Race course road and Rakshapuram near Santoshnagar.
In Shivaganga Nagar in Aliabad water entered houses and water stagnation was seen in front of Yadagiri theatre in Santhoshnagar and Chandrayangutta X road several other places. People were seen clearing water in front of their houses. Following the heavy rain, Mallepally area was completely drenched in the storm water, gushing out of a manhole near Riyan chowrasta. The business activities around the mallepally junction were badly hit.
Meanwhile GHMC also jumped into action and staff under the supervision of higher officials was on ground. GHMC workers cleared water stagnation points under RUB in Malakpet, Quadri Chaman road in Jangamet near Chandrayangutta, Akbar Nagar in Lalithbagh also Chandryangutta, Khaja hotel in Bilalnagar of Doodhbowli and Farooq Nagar in Falaknuma, Singareni colony Junction in IS Sadan. In the midst of the havoc generated by the sudden rain, children were seen enjoying in the stagnant waters in their localities.
