Cherlapally: Heavy rain with gales created havoc in various parts of Cherlapally on Thursday.  Huge trees got uprooted at Keesara, Nagaram, Dammaiguda, Kushaiguda, ECIL, AS Rao Nagar and Netaji Nagar of Cherlapally.

Vehicles were left stranded on the roads until the trees were moved aside. Commuters faced a tough time to reach their destination. Power supply was interrupted in some localities. Drains were seen overflowing on roads at most of the colonies, in short, there was utter chaos in the region.

Sanitation staff with the help of traffic police opened the manholes to avoid stagnation of rain water at main junctions. The whole of Dammaiguda was in darkness for more than 30 minutes as power was cut. Residents say that the electricity department staff did not receive their calls.

Hemanth Raghunath, a retired BEL employee, said, “The staff should at least receive calls and inform how long it would take for the power to be back.” In Netaji Nagar about 20 trees were uprooted as strong winds blew across the area. Ramakanth, a line staff of electricity department, said, “There are huge areas that are open and the wind is much stronger in this area as compared to other areas.”
