Heaps of garbage on the shores of Balanagar lake
Balanagar: A lake known as Balanagar cheruvu, located right next to the IDPL colony Balanagar, is dying a slow death, due to 24X7 discharge of sewage and huge amount of wastage into it.
When Hans India reporter visited Balanagar cheruvu, it was observed that huge amount of wastage is dumped into it and causing serious health issues in nearby, not only just discharge of sewage but the waste materials like plastic, food, unwanted things are also being dumped on the shores of the lake. "Back in the days, the lake used to be a source of irrigation for nearby farms," says senior citizen Mohan Reddy, who has been living in the area for years.
"People used to buy fish seeds and release them in the lake which used to see good fishing activity. People used to take bath in the lake. Now the lake is rendered useless with sewage mixing in it, sometimes some people fire thw whole mountains of wastage and the fire goes very dangerous and beacuse of the continous fire the boundary walls of the bridge which is on the lake is going to be broken soon.
GHMC should also concentrate on lakes which are slowly dying, I suggest GHMC to develop the dying lakes in Hyderabad so that residents get a fresh and healthy atomosphere they should construct a greenary around the lakes “he added.
