Medak Collector strikes a chord with people

Medak: He is an officer with a difference, the 2012 batch IAS officer, K Dharma Reddy is one who does not believe in sitting in the cozy confines of his office but would rather visit the district and also get his hands dirty. In a recent incident, he got into a toilet pit and cleaned it with bare hands bringing instant recognition.

The act has got him appreciation from all quarters and his deed has gone viral in social media and also caught the attention of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao who commented, “He is an IAS officer but works like a politician.”

Not just cleaning the environment, Dharma Reddy has been instrumental in the removal of water cess. He has been arguing that the water cess levied on the farmers is overbearing and many cannot afford it. In the power corridors it is being said that based on his initiation, orders on the removal of water cess has been removed. Ramana, a farmer said that after the collector took charge there have been many developmental issues that have come up and being spoken about.

Sita Devi, a farmer says, “Unlike other officers, he meets people and that makes the difference.  We are able to convey our problems. Whether they would be solved is a different proposition, but at least there is an officer who listens to us.” He swears for an open defecation free society and has been spreading awareness among people to start building toilets.
