Hike in beer price dampens alcohol lovers’ spirits
Parigi: Dampening the spirit of the beer lovers, the state government has increased the price of light beer by Rs 10 and strong lager beer by Rs 20 from Tuesday onwards. Several wine shop dealers have said that it would have adverse impact on their trade.
According to revised prices, light beer sells at Rs 100 a bottle while strong beer sells at Rs 130. During the current summer, the demand for beer is very high. Increasing the cost of beer at this juncture may affect the liquor trade, say the wine shop owners.
On an average over 50,000 beer bottles are sold per day through 44 wine shops in Vikarabad district. Because of the hike in its prices, tipplers might switch over to other brands. The belt shop owners in rural areas might sell them jacking up their prices further. Several feel that if beer bottles are sold through belt shops at a further increased price would have very few takers for the most popular item.
