Advanced plastic surgery Patient’s mid face repaired successfully
Hyderabad: Manjeet Ojha (33) working with reliance, met with a road traffic accident on May 8th early hours near Kondapur. While Manjeet Ojha was returning home he skid and fell from bike to avoid an unidentified rashly driven vehicle approaching him from opposite direction.
He sustained multiple facial injuries involving both his upper and lower lips along with nose hanging with 2cms skin paddle support. Injuries extended from his oral mucosa to skin thru & thru exposing both his upper and lower dentition filled with road side debris and mud. He fell unconscious immediately and was picked up by 108 ambulance and taken over to Maxcure Hospital Emergency team where was given initial first aid and resuscitated immediately that mid night.
From emergency he was shifted to intensive care unit for his loss of consciousness, after stabilization and clearance from Neuro team, he was taken up for plastic surgery by our consultant plastic surgeon Dr. Kiran Banda as an emergency, as both his lips were getting edematous and airway was getting compromised.
Local Advancement flap was used for reconstruction of the lip along with vermilion reconstruction on one side and Mucosal advancement flap from cheek was primarily used with a portion of muscle for mucosal defect closure for attaining perfect mouth opening and closure, or pursing movements of lips and for reconstruction of the angle of mouth.
He was admitted for period of six days where he underwent daily sterile dressing and daily monitoring of flap survival was done. Once he stabilized, he was allowed ryles tube feeding for five days to maintain the intra oral suture lines which supported him nutritionally later he was allowed to take sips of water orally without disturbing sutures then allowed to take liquids orally with oral nutritional supplement and in ten days he was advised to resume semi solid diet later.

Today in the 18 days time he is able to eat normally, brush normally and talk properly. He is a happy man today, to get his original face back and is resuming to his work in two weeks.
