Secunderabad: The jawans at Wellington Road once again stopped the morning walkers and insisted on identity cards on Friday. After a lot of heated arguments from both sides, the jawans let the walkers after 7 p.m. Pankaj Sethi of Federation of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS) asks, “According to CLAR 1937 says public can have right of way on military roads. Also if such roads are maintained by MES then only they are classified as A1. Why does LMA close A1 roads to civilians? It is unlawful?”

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) vice president J Ramakrishna says, “There is a problem of initial communication and the issue would be discussed and sorted out with the Local Military Authority.”  Members of  FNECS say the LMA has not reopened all the roads and this is tantamount to  disobeying the Defence Ministry’s order.”

Radhika, a resident of West Marredpally who was stopped on Friday says, “We are not terrorists and have been using the roads for several years. What we can infer is that this is plain harassment.”

In the meanwhile, members of Resident Welfare Associations are planning to head to Wellington Road today in the morning. Revanth, a resident says, “We were happy that the road closure issue would be solved after the Defence Ministry’s directive but all our joy was short lived.”
