PR polls should be based on govt survey: BC bodies
Nampally: A meeting of BC associations and BC caste organisations at Telugu University on Sunday demanded holding of the Panchayat Raj (PR) elections based on the house-to-house survey conducted by the State government, and not the BC population determined by the State Election Commission.
Chaired by Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jayanti Committee chairman Kundaram Ganesh and attended by BC Welfare Association president Jajula Srinivas Goud as the chief guest, the meeting in a resolution called for implementation of ABCD classification in BC reservations, as ordered by the AP High Court, before holding the PR elections.
The other resolutions adopted called for increasing the BC reservations from 34 to 50 per cent in PR elections, for which the State Election Commission was to release the notification next month. Representatives of ten BC associations and 66 BC caste organisations attended the meeting. Among those present were A Mallayya, Narayana Goud, Narsimha, Sreelakshmi, Venu, Balakrishna, Padma Madhavi, Ravi Varma.
