MP, MLA and SCB members to pressurise authorities to reopen remaining roads

Update: 2018-06-01 05:09 IST

Secunderabad: A team comprising Malkajgiri MP Ch Malla, MLA Reddy, MLA Sayanna, SCB officials, elected ward members and officials of Local Military Authority would be touring the Secunderabad Cantonment within a week to look into the remaining roads that are still closed. This was decided in an ordinary board meeting held here on Thursday.

After the Ministry of Defence (MoD) instructed all the cantonments in the country to reopen the roads, the LMA in Secunderabad Cantonment still has not opened a few roads especially, ones where permanent walls are built at Lakdawala, Ammuguda and St Anns School.

J Ramakrishna, vice president, SCB said that over the years, the LMA set up temporary barricades, check posts, gates and built permanent walls. We decided to make a representation to the LMA to follow the instructions of the MoD in its true spirit. Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy said the LMA does not waste time in closing roads when they get an order from MoD but if told to reopen roads they take a lot of time.

Ring sewer for Trimulgherry Lake

In a major decision, the SCB decided to develop a ring sewer around the Trimulgherry Lake as part of the diversion initiative to prevent sewerage from several colonies entering the lake. The SCB CEO, SVR Chandrashekar said, “We are now at the planning stage and would explore for funds from both the centre as well as the state.”

The issue of Trimulgherry Lake has been going on for over seven years. The SCB’s contention is that the lake does not fall under its jurisdiction. SCB board member Bhagyasree said, “Funding is a major issue and there should be clarity on this. The residents have been suffering for years.”

SCB and revenue officer spar over building plans

The issue of building plan sanctions once again gave rise to heated arguments as soon as the official from the revenue department raised objections. J Ramakrishna, vice president, SCB said that the State Government lost 32 cases and when plans are sent for No Objection Certificate (NOC) it takes months and at times years for the revenue department to respond.

It was decided that the SCB would wait for 15 days after which it would take a call. Former vice president of SCB Keshava Reddy said, “The court had directed the SCB CEO to issue orders pertaining to building sanctions and it is an autonomous body, yet the SCB sends the plans to the revenue department to avoid problems.”

Revenue department stand point is that the matter is between an individual and the state government and the Cantonment Board should not be a party to it.
