Later, Dr Manoharan, Wild Veterinary Officer, Tamil Nadu who visited the zoo suggested modification of diet and walking habits. “Following the treatment the elephant has responded well to the treatment and started moving comfortably, freely in the enclosure taking mud bath and shower regularly,” informed the officials.

However, on Saturday Jamuna got sick again and went down on lateral recumbency. Symptoms looked like weakness and immediately it was attended to with the drip intravenously. The animal was unable to get up on its own due to weakness and heavy weight. Hence, she was physically lifted up with the help of a crane which fecilitated elephant to stand on its position.

The elephant was brought back to the night house area and positioned into the stall. She is feeding well but is suffering with hind leg pain. She is kept under close observation of Dr Navin Kumar and zoo veterinarians, informed officials.
