Kumara Swamy conferred with Vishishta Puraskaram-2018
Hyderabad: Renowned theatre artist and University of Hyderabad alumni, Dr G Kumara Swamy was awarded Vishishta Puraskaram 2018 at Ravindrabharathi on Saturday. The state level award was presented by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, DGP Mahender Reddy, Advisor to government KV Ramanachary, BC Commission chairman B S Ramulu, Secretary to government B Venkatesham and Telangana Sahithya Academy Chairman Nandini Siddared.
The award included a memento, shawl, certificate and cash reward of Rs 100, 116. Dr Swamy is from a traditional folk theatre family (Oggu Katha) from Koppur village of Warangal. Enriched with 25 years of experience in art and culture and in theatre arts practice theory Swamy was the first Indian Theatre actor and director who performed with Peking University, Institute of World Theatre in Beijing, China.
Swamy directed and acted in more than 110 theatre productions, eight short films and four feature films. His participation in UNESCO-International and European Symposium on Art and Cultural Education at Paris (France) in 2007 and Inter-Asia Summer Camp at SEOUL (South Korea) in June 2008. Being a first Telangana artist selected for Chinese government scholarship, was trained in Beijing Opera Physical at National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA) in Beijing.
He was felicitated by many awards including Telangana Government Best Theatre Artist in 2016. Recently he led artist’s team from Telangana state to Haryana and Kerala states under the “Ek Bharath Shrest Bharath” Cultural Exchange Programme by Government of India. Presently, he is working with Department of Culture, TSS-Government of Telangana.
