Road-widening works pose risk to residents

Jeedimetla: The road-widening work from the local RTC depot to Bahadurpalli is proving to be risky for people as the agency entrusted with the task, Hyderabad Road Development Corporation, and the contractor have failed to install caution notice at the  spot to warn road-users during nights to be wary of two-foot deep pits on either side of the road from petrol bunk to the traffic police station.

There is heavy vehicular traffic on the road, with private buses moving throughout the day to move workers to companies in Gandimaisamma, Jinnaram and Kazipalli areas. The contractor doing the work has failed to put up notices, radium stickers and boards with radium ribbon warning of the danger the road-users are likely to face if they don’t watch out. All that he has done is to dump sand-laden cement bags at the spot and wash off hands his responsibility.

The engineering department officials concerned should have persuaded the contractor to install notices at the spot. Their failure to do so clearly shows a slip in their supervisory role. Some road-users, like Sai Krishna, while expressing serious concern over the state of affairs told The Hans India who would take responsibility if there were to be an accident?.

They want the administration to ensure that the work caution notices are installed and take action against the officials and the contractor who failed to do so. They demand immediate notices to be put up on either side of the road. Krishna said the spot has become a threat to lives of workers going daily to their factories.
