GHMC to plant 5 lakh saplings in 526 open places

Hyderabad: This year, as a part of Harithaharam programme the Telangana government is planning to plant over 40 lakh saplings in the city. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will take the initiative of planting saplings along with the support of Resident Welfare Associations RWAs and NGOs. of GHMC plant nurseries will be supplying 5 lakh saplings, and 526 open places which have been identified for planting.

GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy appealed to corporate and private companies to join hands with GHMC for providing tree guards under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He also requested corporate and NGOs to take up central medians maintenance. And explained the statistics of two consecutive years where more than 90 per cent of survival rate was observed by the implementation of several other methods to ensure cent per cent protection of the plants for the project.

Dr Reddy also spoke about the fire incident which occurred at Ranigunj. He said that an inquiry has been ordered into the fire incident. He said the Disaster Management Teams were rushed immediately to the spot and rescue operations were carried out to safeguard the people at the site. 

On preparation for the monsoon, Reddy said that GHMC has taken up Cement Concrete (CC) road repairing works at a cost of  Rs 250 crore. The works were in progress and the target has been fixed for the completion of road repairing works by end of June. The road repairing works in surrounding municipalities would be taken up in the early hours as the GHMC already obtained permission from the Traffic Police for the works. So far, the GHMC has removed 2.60 cubic meters of silt. Apart from this, GHMC has also issued notices to the identified dilapidated buildings while some have already been vacated.
