Hyderabad Zoo authorities construct weir to prevent inundation
Bahadurpura: In view of heavy inflow of water from the Mir-Alam tank and adjoining areas into Nehru Zoological Park the previous year and to avert a similar situation, the Zoo authorities constructed a weir on Singoli lake.
As a ‘precautionary measure’ a water channel has been erected from the entrance of the tiger safari to Musi river. The authorities have cleared all the biological obstructions like stones, rocks, debris of trees, sand.
In compliance with the instructions issued by the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of Zoo parks Hyderabad and Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, a joint field inspection was conducted on Wednesday by Syed Maqsood Mohiuddin, Assistant Conservator of Forests, M Laxman, Assistant Curators G Gnyaneshwar, Mohd Zakir, Assistant Engineer, Nehru Zoological Park, along with Rama Rao, Assistant Engineer (North Tank Division GHMC).
During the inspection the water level around the lake and inlets have been inspected and found that the water was stagnating near the lion safari to elephant moat area. They advised the staff to clear the debris and other obstructions to facilitate the speedy flow of water and to prevent stagnation of water level from lion safari to elephant moat area.
